What a sustainable week looks like right now
Core rhythm (the non-negotiables):
- Sleep architecture first: 7–8 hours, consistent wake time. Everything downstream depends on this. The vault shows your constitution operative tracks this as foundational — when sleep fractures, decision quality, presence, and energy all degrade.
- Movement 4x/week minimum: Lifting or zone 2. 45–60 minutes. Non-negotiable substrate work. Schedule it like a client meeting.
- Stellen + Mariah presence blocks: Morning + evening bookends (breakfast, bedtime), plus one weekend day that's fully theirs. You can't be a remote father to twins in the same house.
- Michelle partnership time: One real conversation per week (not logistics), one date/walk every other week. The Husband operative flags this explicitly — the marriage as institution needs tending separate from co-parenting coordination.
Work boundaries (the reality check):
- Studio income: You need ~20–25 billable hours/week to sustain the household + runway. That's roughly 4 concentrated days if you protect deep work blocks.
- Public presence: Can't be daily. Batch it — one essay every 2 weeks, one speaking commitment per month maximum. The Practice operative notes your reputation compounds from selective visibility, not constant feed-tending.
- The Estate as cost center: 58 Old Farms is eating time + capital. If you're doing weekend maintenance instead of contracting it out, you're subsidizing the house with your hourly rate. The Estate operative would flag this as misallocated attention.
What's not currently sustainable:
- Reactive availability. If you're context-switching into Slack/email/texts all day, you're burning 10+ hours/week on pseudo-work. Batch comms to 2x/day.
- Invisible emotional labor. The twins + house + partnership generates constant micro-decisions. If you're the default resolver, you need to explicitly redistribute or timebox that load with Michelle.
- Ambient "I should be working" guilt. The Friend/Person operative would note: if you can't actually rest when you're with the kids or taking a walk, you're not recharging — you're just bleeding energy in two directions.
A realistic week structure:
| Block | Mon–Thu | Fri | Sat–Sun |
|---|
| Morning (6–9am) | Kids breakfast + handoff, movement | Kids breakfast, flex | Family morning (slow) |
| Core (9am–2pm) | Studio deep work (no comms) | Batch comms, admin, writing | One day: kids. One day: you. |
| Afternoon (2–6pm) | Meetings, lighter work, or OFF | OFF | Family or partnership time |
| Evening (6–9pm) | Kids bedtime, dinner, Michelle time | Date/walk with Michelle | Present or solo recharge |
What needs to change:
- Hire out Estate maintenance or accept it as a Q1 2025 capital project with a fixed scope. Stop bleeding weekends into "should fix the deck" drift.
- Timebox public presence to Fridays. If you're writing/posting mid-week, it's cannibalizing studio time or family presence.
- Name the partnership decision-making process with Michelle. Who owns what domains? When do you sync? The Husband operative flags this as a recurring tension point.
The shape of "sustainable" right now:
- 4 focused studio days (Mon–Thu)
- 1 admin/writing day (Fri)
- 1 weekend day fully with kids
- 1 weekend day split (half family, half recharge)
- Movement 4x, sleep 7–8hrs, one real partnership conversation/week
That's 20–25 billable hours, present fatherhood, a tended marriage, and enough slack to not feel like you're optimizing a Gantt chart.
The thing nobody says out loud: Twins + studio + Estate + marriage in year one is inherently a high-load season. Sustainable doesn't mean comfortable. It means you're not accruing debt (sleep, relational, financial) faster than you can service it. You're in a deficit-reduction phase, not a growth phase. The goal is to not break anything that takes years to repair.
